Hey guys I was just accepted to Tulane University for fall of 06. Tulane was definitely one of my top choice schools when I visited in June and when I was applying, but of course now I'm a little concerned about the state of the city. I plan to visit soon but I wanted some input from current students. How are all of you liking Tulane and the city? Was it what you expected/hoped it would be? And is Tulane still regarded on the same level- competitive wise? Thanks for your help :)

I am honestly obsessed with both Tulane and New Orleans. I didn't go anywhere last semester and deciding to come back here was probably the best decision I've ever made. I have had nothing but amazing experience with the academic advisors and the whole educational system, and everything seems relatively well organized for everything that has happened. The city is completely contradictory, obviously the 9th Ward and a few other neighborhoods are still a disaster, but uptown [where Tulane is] is pretty normal looking, and the central business district and french quarter are close to "back to normal". I don't know how Tulane looks to an outsider, but I think everyone here still regards it high competitive-wise, & I don't think the school has any plans to lower their standards academically. But I don't know for sure.
Honestly, Tulane is amazing, and I am having more fun here than I've ever had before.

Tulane is amazing. It's simple. The city, as far as places where a student would want to go, is still great. The academics are much better here than where I was. Mardi Gras was fantastic. I'm glad I'm here.

Congrats on being accepted! you'd be crazy to not come here. it's amazing and has far exceeded every expectation I've had about what this semester would be like. and, yes, academically it is still highly competitive. we are the ivy league of the south for a reason and katrina didn't change that. the city, especially in the area surrounding Tulane, is quickly coming back together and I really haven't lacked in anything since I've been here. If anything, I think we have more opportunities to get involved but also to have fun because business owners want us in their establishments and the university feels more obligated to provide events for us. basically, it's amazing

i just want to say i agree with all of the above comments.

most everyone one of us went to another school last semester, with no previous college experience, then gave up that school for tulane in january, yet i don't know a single person here that prefers their previous school to tulane.
sure, you'll have fun wherever you go, but not the fun you'll have here. this place is like no other, and the atmosphere can't be beat. i really couldn't imagine myself anywhere else.

Thanks so much to all of you. I am sooo excited to visit and hopefully attend. It sounds like you guys are all having a blast. Anyone from NY? I'm kind of nervous to move pretty far away but I'm sure it will be well worth it. And anyone major in english or know anything about the program?
